On my desk...

donut
A new addition to my "desk" (couch) as of last night.

We did cross stitch at Craftea Chat night and while I am not a cross stitcher (my cross stitch is best appreciated at at least arm's length so you can't see my horrible stitches up close), it did make me want to pull out my embroidery floss boxes.

Two of my three (haha, addicted?) embroidery floss boxes.

I have mild OCD so playing with my floss is a harmless way for me to indulge myself. I like to rearrange them by numerical order, and then rearrange again into a rainbow by colour. It's very soothing to play with the spools (bobbins? cards?), and almost meditative to wind the floss onto the cards.

I also get a lot of inspiration just by playing with colour combinations.

Craft Chi shows us how to make your own embroidery cards to get organised: link. These are really cute and I'd love to print some out myself!

Also on my desk... badges!

Some new, some not so new, all three of them utterly loved!

Top:
I made this one last night at Craftea Club. My first cross stitching! Don't look too close because my stitches aren't so crash hot.

Middle:
Steph made me this lovely mushroom and daisy badge from some of mscate's material. I just love the feeling of fabric badges (no plastic over the top) and I think I'm hooked!

Bottom:
Cheese and a CHEESE MONSTER! This badge is a present from Bex and I love it! I love cheese!

Your embroidery floss boxes make me just a *little* bit breathless. I WANT TO TOUCH THEM. Also, I think it is an excellent and harmless channel for OCD. I like to arrange my CDs in alphabetical order, and then genre, and then chronology... but dammit if iTunes isn't ruining the fun. Who even buys CDs any more? Me, sometimes. SHHHH.

FURTHERMORE. I like your embroidery very much.

I do that with my CDs too! And books. Although I don't really have many CDs - most of them are back from when CDs were popular which means they're like Janet Jackson or Human Nature CDs >_

I love that first picture! I don't like using those floss bobbins (I prefer the stitch-bow system) but I will admit they look way cooler in the box than my stitch bows do *L* Your little stitched badge is really cute, I wouldn't have thought to do that!

I don't really love cross stitch but I love that they're so tiny and cute (and fit on badges) and are quick to do! Most of the stuff I do takes days and days so it's nice to have a bite-sized project.

should.... should I wind my embroidery thread onto those cardboard things?
And why on earth do you have so much if your embroidery sucks and you don't do much of it?! (I don't do much of it either, but I have much less colours than you)

I started with friendship bands.. Hundreds of them! I use embroidery thread to make them. I like embroidery I'm just not good at cross stitch. My embroidery is basically backstitch too - nothing posh :p

I prefer them on the cards as opposed to the thread bows or just loose in a tangled mess, or pulling it out of the skein as you need it. Sure, it gets kinks in the thread from the card, but you can iron them out and I've never found it to be a problem. Plus you get to play with them in the box!

Mmmmm floss! Looks delicious :D Who cares if you use 'em or not, it's "art".
You should add your badge pic to the Facebook group as my photo of your work was blurry.

I know this is an old post, but what brand is the container that holds your floss? Also, the bobbins? What brand? I have really tiny bobbins for floss, and sometimes they get 'too fat'. Please let me know. lovely work color coordinating!

Re: IoveIy
I bought this box about 10 years ago so I have no idea what brand it is, sorry! It was just whatever my local craft store stocked. The same with the floss bobbins. Maybe Birch brand but I'm not sure. I know they're plastic, because I got fed up of the cardboard ones falling to pieces after heavy use :)
